This Lecture will be held on Zoom on February 23rd from 1:30pm-4:00pm PST (4:30pm-7:00pm EST), featuring guest speaker Mark Smithyes, MBA.
Medical Device Reimbursement for medical devices is critical for successful product commercialization. This workshop discusses the reimbursement landscape in Canada and presents a medical device reimbursement framework that can be applied when seeking medical device reimbursement. The framework focuses on the medical device and the reimbursement environment where payment is being sought.
The workshop involves a lecture and reimbursement hands-on exercise. The first part of this session (lecture) allows participants to understand, apply and strategize key reimbursement mechanisms for their medical technologies. It aims to help innovators:
- Identify and minimize their knowledge gap around attaining reimbursement of their technologies ;
- Familiarize with the role of Health Technology Assessment and its impact on market access of innovative technologies;
- Identify promising markets to consider when planning out market access; and
- Understand the scope of work and/or due diligence required to attain reimbursement and market access both locally and internationally.
During the exercise, teams will conduct a reimbursement assessment and develop a reimbursement plan for real-world medical device reimbursement. At the conclusion of the workshop, participants will have gained a sense of the knowledge and tools needed to build a medical device reimbursement plan.
